[edita] information announcement December 2006

In October 2005 we started off "GERMINADOR, sprouter of net collective creation proposals" [1]. After more than one year, we think that the "GERMINADOR wiki"[2] is configured as a useful resource to “fertilize” the field of collective creation.

There are different possible approaches to this resource. Here you have 4:

  1. PROVIDING PROPOSALS: aim to those who would like to incorporate proposals that he or she knows and that have not been gathered, to those who would like to create new or different proposals to those already present.
  2. EXPERIENCE: aim to those who are willing to take part in collective creation experiences.
  3. DEVELOPING: aim to those who feel like developing systems of collective creation and would like to start from those systems already proposed.
  4. DEBATE AND REFLECTION: aim to those who are interested in theoretical reflection, knowledge of the characteristics of the proposals and the social and political implications of collective creation.

A web page is associated to each of them and can be accessed from the Wiki main page.

The gathered proposals have been reviewed and grouped according to different criteria that facilitate description and comparison among them.

To do so, we have used descriptive tags such as: if it involves a synchronic or asynchronic experience, if out of the collective activity we get a mosaic work or an amalgam of contributions, if anonymous contribution is possible or if the user has to be registered, if there are collective mechanisms of decision making, if there are protocols guaranteeing the fitting of contributions, etc...

The access to proposals is also granted through other characteristics:

  • according to the media of creation (text, graphics, sound, ...)
  • according to the technologies used or those proposed to be used (PHP, Java, Flash, Processing, ...) and if they are free or licensed
  • according to the regulation of rights that are proposed for the generated work or the software involved (restricted copyright, copyleft, creative commons licences, GPL, GFDL, ...)

The "GERMINADOR project" has been set in motion by TAG Taller d'Intangibles with the support of the Culture Department of the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Institut Universitari de l'Audiovisual of the UPF. But nowadays we think that the Wiki is already a collaborating resource at the disposal of those who are interested in research or experimentation.

"GERMINADOR" is a trilingual project: Catalan, Spanish and English. The common working language of TAG Taller d'Intangibles is Catalan and that is why the wiki contents are in this language. The partial and final reports of the project are translated into Spanish and English. The wiki is also organized in order to make it easy to collaborate with the translations. In any case, if you want to make an automatic translation of the contents appearing in Spanish or in Catalan, we recommend you to use the service provided by Translendium [4] whose translations are quite acceptable.
