Here we explain how the contents and the activities are organized in the wiki.

[edita] Templates

We use some “templates” from mediaWiki to insert contents that are used very frequently so that they are not written again. We distinguish several types of templates: sprout, seed, license and distribution license templates.

Some tests with templates can be seen at Template tests.

[edita] Socio-tec seed template

It is important to notice that socio-tec articles include a record of their features and an image. In order to do so, you should insert a seed template (Infobox llavor en'). In the template itself, you will find the instructions explaining how to use it. If the seed is not a software solution there is a basic seed template available where no technical information is required.

[edita] Socio-tec sprout template

It is important to notice that in socio-tec sprout articles, on the right hand there will be a column with an image and references to the seeds where this sprout comes from. In order to do so, you should insert a sprout template. In the template itself, you will find the instructions explaining how to use it.

[edita] Linguistic templates

The use of the different templates to mark the linguistic status is explained in the article GERMINADOR wiki:multilingual (en)#Using templates – How to.

[edita] Distribution license templates

The use of the different templates to specify the conditions on distribution is explained in the article Licenses (en).

[edita] XML tags

The software we use can also be extended by using XML tags that will allow the contents to be tagged and the screening to be modified. These tags enable the visual formatting of the text and also its internal marking-up so that we can search through it later by using extraction software.

Currently we provide two tags that are used to differentiate between the quotes:

  • <CitaL>: quotation or literal transcription. E.g.: 'cogito ergo sum'
  • <CitaA>: approximated quotation. E.g.: 'penso, per tant existeixo'

These tags are used in a similar way than HTML, specifying the text we want to mark-up with an open and a close tag (alternating the sign /) like in the following example:

To write a literal quotation we may write it like this: <CitaL>Once Upon a Time...</CitaL>

That will be displayed like this: 'Once Upon a Time...'

[edita] Conventions for article titles

language:

  • in this wiki articles in Catalan, Spanish or English can be found. In order to keep the documents organized and to manage the translations, there are some rules on the creation of the titles and on the insertion of templates that are explained in GERMINADOR wiki:Multilingual (en)#Naming conventions.

sprout:

  • the titles of sprout pages should be completed by a blank space and a (G). For example: wikipool; improvements (G) would be a sprout of the seed wikipool (L) that sets improvements on the system.

socio-tec seeds:

  • the title of the socio-tec seed pages should be completed by a blank space and a (L). For example: Wikipool (L) would be the article where what a Wikipool is explained, a system that in this project is considered as a start-off seed for future sprouts.

bio articles:

  • the titles of the sites of biological seeds and sprout records should be completed by a blank space and a (B). For example: Lentil (B) will be the article where the lentil seed record can be found.

[edita] mediaWiki categories

The software we use (mediaWiki) allows us to create "categories" in order to classify the articles and to generate automatic lists that belong to the same classification.

The main categories we use are the following:

Linguistic: related to the multilingual nature of wiki; they are used to create lists of pages by languages, lists of pages to be translated and lists of pages where the translations have to be reviewed. The categories related with the language are explained in detail at: GERMINADOR wiki:Multilingual (en).

Socio-tec sprouts: we identify the pages that describe a socio-tec seed (identification of systems by their collective creation potential). To include a page in this category, write: [[categoria:llavor]]. This way, an automatic list of seeds is created: categoria:llavor (meaning category:seed). In any case, the templates we use to identify the seeds do include them in this category.

Socio-tec seeds: we identify the pages that describe a socio-tec sprout (development of variations from socio-tec seeds). To include a page in this category, write: [[categoria:germinat]]. This way, an automatic list of sprouts is created: categoria:germinat (meaning category:sprout). In any case, the templates we use to identify the sprouts do include them in this category.

Reflections in the process: we identify the pages that are texts of reflection in the working process. To include a page into this category, it should read: [[categoria:reflexio]]. In this way, an automatic list of reflection texts is created: categoria:reflexio(meaning category:reflection).

Bio seeds: we identify the pages that describe a bio seed (photos of biological seeds that we want to germinate). To include a page in this category, write: [[categoria:llavor bio]]. This way, an automatic list of bio seeds is created: categoria:llavor bio (meaning category:bio seed).

Bio sprouts: we identify the pages that describe a bio sprout (photos of the seeds we are germinating). To include a page in this category, write: [[categoria:germinat bio]]. This way, an automatic list of bio sprouts is created: categoria:germinat bio (meaning category:bio sprout).

Workshops: some workshops that use the wiki as a working resource may have a category that identifies the specific pages for the workshop.

A complete list of categories can be found at: Special:Categories
